Re-Wiring
If it is time to do some re-wiring of your home, you will need to check the building codes to see what you need, what you need to do and what specifications they have for placing receptacles as well as what type of receptacles you need. If you do the re-wiring yourself, you have to follow the guidelines given by the housing authority in order for your home to be approved after the wiring is completed. You do need to be careful when doing the re-wiring project. New laws and different receptacles that are available must be placed where they are needed. In many situations, you must hire a licensed and insured electrician to perform any home re-wiring. Especially if it is work that requires a permit from your local township.
By sinks and any other water sources, you need to use GFCI receptacles. In your other rooms, you will need to eliminate any non-polarized outlets with the grounded outlets and polarized outlets. If you are confused at this point, it further justifies why you might need an electrician to come in and do the job. Your wiring has to be standard as well. Today, most contractors use Romex, which is coated to protect the wires and it eliminates the need to dissipate the heat. It is good for using by joists, studs and by any wood or insulation in the home.
If you are doing just the wiring, you do not want to be knocking holes in the wall unless it is for an outlet. An electrician can do the work without any unnecessary holes in the walls. They have the tools and equipment to run the wiring throughout the home without any problems. The re-wiring project can be tormenting to someone who is not qualified to do the work. You could end up doing more than just re-wiring if you lose a wire and need to put holes in the walls to find it. Professional electricians are also insured to do the work you need done. So if additional damage is caused by their work and they did not advise you of the possibility of damage, or if the wiring is not installed properly or if they get injured while doing the work, you are protected by the fact that they have adequate insurance.
