Frayed Wiring
Today, you find most houses having Romex for wiring in the home. In some cases, homes still have the copper wiring. The copper is just as good as the Romex as long as it is in good condition. If you see any frayed wiring, you need to have this fixed as soon as possible. Frayed wiring can arch and cause a fire in your home. You may not have ever seen arching wires in your home, but if you have ever seen an outdoor electrical line come down and arch, you have seen an instance of frayed wiring (except it was caused by something else rather than old wiring.)
Your first instinct may be to simply strip the wires and replace them back to where they were connected. This is the misconception of many people and it can be just as dangerous as a frayed wire. You have to know what you’re doing in order to properly fix a frayed wire. There is more to just stripping the wire and replacing it, when it comes to faulty wiring. If you do something wrong, you are jeopardizing the safety of you, your family and your home. You will need to have the right tools and equipment to fix wiring. You not only need the tools and equipment, but you also need to check all the wiring to make sure it’s good. If you strip too much of the wire, you might come up short and have more problems. An experienced electrician will be able to do the job correctly and most likely save time and money by doing it right the first time. If you find any frayed wires or start having electrical problems, it is time to call an electrician who is trained to find the problem.
